The Plan For Tech Driven Sustainability In Bukidnon

The LGU of Kadingilan, Bukidnon is taking the next step in building climate-resilient communities. Together with the Department of Science and Technology’s iSTART Program, LGU Kadingilan has created the Enhanced Local Climate Change Adaptation Plan (ELCCAP), which focuses on bringing in sustainable, science, and tech-driven solutions to tackle climate challenges.

Mayor Jerry Canoy Jr. stresses the importance of teamwork in coming up with a solid plan that benefits everyone in the community. “I am grateful that we are united now. Thanks to our partners who helped us with our ELCCAP for the people of Kadingilan,” he said.

Engr Rizal Capili, the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator, added, “With the help of our experts, I have great confidence that we can create an Enhanced LCCAP, which is one of our key references in developing and advancing our town of Kadingilan.”

Preparing For Climate Change

The ELCCAP will serve as a blueprint for disaster prevention and mitigation plans for climate change adaptability, incorporating the latest advancements in science and technology offered by DOST. The plan will focus on local vulnerabilities and sustainable development in order to address the unique climate challenges that Kadingilan faces.

It also includes a Greenhouse Gas Inventory to track where their emissions are coming from and how much they’re producing. This data is very important for figuring out how to cut down on those emissions. Plus, they’re identifying Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) indicators to make sure these elements are part of their local development plans.

At The Forefront Of Sustainability

Dr. Romela Ratilla, the Regional Director of DOST 10, praised Kadingilan for being the first municipality in the region to integrate science, tech, and innovation into their planning. “The Local Government Unit of Kadingilan is the first municipality in the region with which we have partnered in planning — all while mainstreaming science, technology, and innovation,” she said, while also stressing how this partnership heralds the beginning of many more to come.

LGU Kadingilan is setting the pace in Northern Mindanao, showing how to blend science, technology, and innovation with local climate adaptation plans. As the LCCAP shows, they’re clearly leading the way in sustainable development in Northern Mindanao.
