Key Takeaways:

  • FDC Green Energy Corp. is launching a 20.75-megawatt solar project in Misamis Oriental, Mindanao, marking a shift towards renewable energy.
  • The solar farm is expected to generate 30,450 MWh of clean energy annually, helping meet the region’s energy demand, particularly during peak summer months.
  • The project is backed by a 25-year service contract with the Department of Energy (DOE) and will use 34,000 monocrystalline solar panels.
  • Over 200 jobs will be created during construction, with ongoing employment opportunities once operational.

Filinvest Development Corp.’s energy subsidiary, FDC Green Energy Corporation, is making a shift towards sustainability with the launch of its 20.75-megawatt solar power project in Mindanao.

This initiative marks a departure from the company’s previous reliance on fossil fuels and underscores its commitment to a greener, more sustainable energy future.

Located within the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental, the new solar farm is set to generate 30,450 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy annually once fully operational.

The project is backed by a 25-year service contract with the Department of Energy and will incorporate 34,000 monocrystalline solar panels.

FDC Green Energy’s president and CEO, Juan Eugenio L. Roxas, called the project a pivotal step in achieving a more balanced energy portfolio for the Filinvest Group. He highlighted that the solar farm is not just a technical advancement but also a strategic move to attract businesses focused on sustainability and clean energy practices.

The solar farm will create over 200 jobs during its construction phase and provide ongoing employment opportunities once operational.

This solar initiative represents a key milestone in Filinvest’s transition to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious energy future, paving the way for future renewable energy projects in Mindanao.

Mindanao’s Growing Solar Energy Landscape

Several other solar projects in Mindanao are already showcasing the region’s strong potential for renewable energy:

Kirahon Solar Farm: Located in Misamis Oriental, this 12.5 MWp (10 MWac) solar farm is one of the first large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in the Philippines. Operational since 2015, the facility generates over 18 million kWh of clean energy annually, enough to power around 8,900 households and businesses. It has consistently outperformed its expected energy output.

Napocor Solar Projects: In partnership with the European Union and the World Bank, the National Power Corporation (Napocor) has completed several solar power plants in Mindanao. These projects are designed to provide clean energy to rural areas, enhance grid stability, and promote energy independence.

Off-Grid Solar Initiatives: Numerous solar-powered systems have been introduced in off-grid areas of Mindanao, including in regions like Lanao del Sur and Tawi-Tawi. These projects support local communities by powering vital services such as irrigation systems, coffee dryers, and ice-making machines.

These projects highlight Mindanao’s potential as a hub for renewable energy, furthering the region’s efforts toward sustainable development and energy security.
