To improve our country’s climate change adaptability, green initiatives should be encouraged and celebrated. As a group at the forefront of preservation efforts, particularly in Davao’s watershed areas, The Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS) understands the value of recognition in advancing its cause. With the Lunhaw Expo, IDIS hopes to do just that.
The Lunhaw Expo event will give recognition to innovators in the field of environmental conservation and sustainability. The expo will highlight several green initiatives in the field of organic agriculture, water conservation, energy conservation, coastal and marine management, and forest-based initiatives, among others.
Inspiring Initiatives
The hope is that, by showcasing these efforts, IDIS will be able to give these innovations a wider platform, increasing their chances for widespread adoption.
“We will be highlighting them to know the status of their initiatives and to invite Davaoeños to replicate their initiatives, so we expect to have Lunhaw conversations during the event,” IDIS knowledge management officer Yvette Balayon-Mahinay said. She added that they have more than 100 Lunhaw awardees in Davao City.
The three-day event will be held from September 18-20 at the SM City Annex in collaboration with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, the City Agriculturist Office, the Davao City Water District, the Davao Association of Catholic Schools, and SM City Davao.
Luntiang Pluma
IDIS is also accepting entries for the Luntiang Pluma 2024. The award honors the best articles that raise awareness and provide solutions to various environmental issues in Davao City.
Adrian Claudio Dela Cruz, IDIS digital campaigner, announced that entries are now open for local journalists and student publications.
“I think it is time to engage young student journalists from different colleges and universities. In 2022, we recognized various professional journalists. This year, we want to empower the youth with knowledge about environmental stories in Davao City,” Dela Cruz said.
Thematic areas for submissions include water, air, waste energy, climate action, watershed and forest management, land use and urban livability, and environmental rights.
Each writer may submit up to three articles by July 31. The Luntiang Pluma, which started in 2022, has already awarded 10 journalists for their outstanding environmental reports.
