Davao City residents, struggling with rising power costs in recent months, can now breathe a sigh of relief.
The Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) announced a residential electricity rate decrease for June that can give households that consume 200-kilowatt hours per month over P500 in savings for the next billing period.
From P10.7608/kWh in May 2024, the residential power rate in Davao will go down to P7.9372/kWh in June, which nets to a total cutback of P2.82 per kilowatt hour (kWh).
The decrease in power rate is in accordance with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) order which mandates all distribution utilities to collect generation charges from the May billing of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) on a staggered basis, evenly divided from June 2024 to September 2024.
Momentary Reprieve
However, the generation rates are expected to increase in the next three months due to the staggered payment of WESM charges, as explained by DLPC Reputation Enhancement Department Head Fermin Edillon.
“In effect, we have lower generation rates for June but from July to September, we expect high generation rates due to the staggered payment of WESM charges,” Edillon said.
While the power rate cuts are good for only a month, they may still prove to be a momentary reprieve that residents will welcome after months of rising electric bills. DLPC continues to encourage all power consumers to manage their energy usage and use electricity wisely to prevent high electricity bills.
